Upper Gwynedd Township is located within the North Penn School District and is home to Gwynedd Square and Gwyn-Nor Elementary Schools and Pennbrook Middle School.
The township is so named because it was originally settled largely by migrants from Gwynedd and other parts of North Wales in the 17th and 18th Centuries. For several generations the main language used in the township was Welsh. Upper Gwynedd was incorporated as a Township in 1891 when the township of Gwynedd was split into two (Lower Gwynedd being the other part).
